PvP in Cataclysm

September 20, 2010 in beta

World PvP in the current game seems to consist largely of high levels patrolling low level areas, killing whoever they find. Perhaps they’re baiting the higher levels to come by and stop them.

Cataclysm will offer a new feature to this:

We’ve added a new flying skill called Flight Master’s License. When World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is released, players who purchase the expansion will see this skill available from flight trainers for 250 gold once they reach level 60. This new skill is required for flying around all Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms zones, including the new level 80-85 zones.

Dev post here

250 gold is trivial, even to 60s, so now, instead of mounted gankers patrolling, they’ll just fly over and drop in to say Hello. It should also make invading the other faction’s outposts much easier.

Rumor has it that Bliz once promised “no old world flying” or words to that effect. Guess they changed their minds.

Now, if you want to be the one dropping in to say Hello, then I suggest you get leveled up. In the event that buying the appropriate flying skills is a non-trivial expense then start with our gold guide. (Ok, when my Rogue hit 70, before Wrath, I had to spend some time mining and such to earn enough gold to get flying. You don’t have to. )

Catalysm Beta – Worgen Druid

August 29, 2010 in beta, Druid

Overall I really like the Worgen starting area. The dark and gloomy atmosphere really works well for the Worgen story. Speaking of the story, it’s actually pretty interesting. Most of the time while questing I just end up skipping all the story and not reading any of the quest info. However this time I slowed down to read *most* of the quests. Not every single quest is full of fun action, however a large portion of them are kinda fun. It made leveling a breeze and not a chore.

While on the subject of breezes, no, that noise you hear all the time while playing your Worgen is not the wind, or a nearby monster. It also does not mean that your sound card is broken. Nope, what’s making that horrible sound is your Worgen! Sniffling (snuffling?)! It seems the Worgen idle sounds are a bit broken at the moment. So don’t worry, they will be fixed before the release. If you really can’t take the noise, then try changing into your human form while not fighting, or if you are a druid, just stay in cat form.

From playing my druid up to level 14, I can safely say that druids are very fun in Cataclysm. Getting cat form at level 8 makes the low levels so much more fun. The other thing that I like a lot about Cataclysm in general is that you never (hardly ever) feel like you have to waste a talent point on some worthless talent in order to get to the next tier talents. Every talent point you spend  feels like a direct and positive buff to your character (even if it is sometimes a small buff.)

I also really like getting over 4k HP at level 14 from a level 80ish priest stam buff. (Probably a bug, but I hope they keep it.)

crazy stamina!

Well, that’s all for now, but I’ll be back later with more.
