Inscription Guide and GW Updates
Rogptor | December 12, 2008I’m the new member of the GotWarcraft team and I’ll be helping to update the site and the blog over the next few weeks. I run Azeroth Cookbook if you want to know more about me.
Currently I’m working on an inscription guide. At the moment it’s a just a skeleton with some placeholders, but I hope to get it finished today. I’ll update this post when that happens, Since my main has 441 Inscription and since I’ve made well over 50k gold selling glyphs since Inscription went live, I think I have some qualifications here, if nowhere else.
update: The inscription guide is now live. Leave comments here if I missed something, need to fix or add something, or whatever.
As far as the class (and other guides) go, most of them have been partially updated for Wrath of the Lich King, but there are a few glitches. Unless people leave comments and demand otherwise, we’ll be working on the guides in more or less this order (based on what the web stats say are the most popular pages)…
- Death Knight, Warrior, Mage, Druid, Rogue, Paladin, Shaman, Warlock. Hunter, Priest
Ok, we don’t actually have any DK pages up yet, but that’s the next project after the Inscription page.
Good to see you again!

Rogptor | December 15, 2008Hey John,
How? Steady work.
I’ve been putting up glyphs since Insc. went live and currently I’m bringing in about 2k a day. Here’s a pic if you’re interested. You just keep it up, day after day. That’s how people have hit the gold cap (a little over 230k.)
Hey Rog, Finally managed to stumble onto the gotwarcraft site
Daxian | January 2, 2009Hey Rog,
Finally managed to stumble onto the gotwarcraft site again after finally reactivating. Picked up inscrip with my new Dw Shadow Priest. I was wondering would you recommend focusing on minor glyphs or majors when looking to start turning inks into cold hard gold?
Hey Dax, Like your site. Nice job. The problem with
Rogptor | January 3, 2009Hey Dax,
Like your site. Nice job.
The problem with minors is that you only get one per day. Same with the majors that you get from Northrend Inscription Research. That said, there are some trainer glyphs which sell well. Improved Scorch, Judgement, and Levitate are three of those. Some just don’t seem to sell at all. Most of the minors seem to sell, if slowly. Some of the Northrend majors just don’t (Deadly Throw, for one.)
Some sell well, but for some reason have a lot of competition, while others have less. Then you have the glyphs that sell well and the clowns who insist at selling piles of them at 1 gold each. Hint: If you find “Death and Decay” at 1g buy all of them and resell at 40 (or more.)
So what I’d do is this: Look through the AH and take some notes as to what seems to be selling at a good price. While training pick glyphs that look like they would be in demand and train those. Then, when you have a nice assortment, post them.
It’ll take some trial and error to find which glyphs, on your server, sell well and have low enough competition what you’ll actually be able to sell some. I keep a spreadsheet and track what sells. I also make notes when my inventory runs low, then I make more in a batch. Keep track of your costs, too.
So if you want to focus? Do some research, post some glyphs, 2 at a time, keep notes, toss the ones that don’t do anything, or do it at too low a price.
Selling notes: When undercutting, do it by 1 or 2 silver, not 4 or 5 gold.
Don’t post more than 2 at a time, unless you’re the only seller (at the moment.) I’ll usually post 4 or 5 in that case. You’ll generally find that if you post a bunch then your inventory is locked up while someone else undercuts you.
If you see a glyph that you know sells for 30 and someone is posting a few at 4, then buy them out and repost at a better price.
Hope that helps.
