Zygor’s Leveling Guide - First Impressions

madgan | June 1, 2008

It’s more than likely that at any one time in your gaming experience, whether it be on world of World of Warcraft or other such MMORPG and thus inevitably level based games, you’ve likely wished eveything could just be a little bit easier, I personally am no stranger to the sentiment.

Still, back when I brought my first characters to 60, and eventually 70, there were no leveling aids beyond “grind this, grind that,” and even those sources could be more than a little vague, leveling was simply one massive exercise in mental exertion to maintain zombie-like activities of pressing 1, 2, 3, repeat.

Perhaps some of these difficulties were solved when Blizzard lowered the experience required to level, enough so that I managed to force myself to bring yet another paladin up to 70 in record time, a blood elf for some horde side PvP heal-botting.

Still, I can’t bring myself to say that the whole leveling game was ‘fun’, much more that it took less time, but throughout the time I did spend leveling, strenuous effort was expended on not going mad whilst completing the “slay 10 killer bunnies”quest for the umpteenth time.

Overall, at least in my opinion, leveling is hell, which is why I was surprised to find something so intriguing, at least as far as guides go, that I manage to bring myself to starting yet another new character - A warlock in fact, something of which I possess none of horde side.  The guide in question? something called Zygor’s automated leveling guides.

Now, automated you ask? as in it does all the work for you?  Well obviously that would be breaking numerous rules, rather, the guide presents quite possibly the furthest one can bring step-by-step leveling detail without actually coming over to your house and mashing the keys for you.

Zygor

Here you can see the menu fully opened, and this basically sums up all the detail required.  Each step when selected  has further detail, giving more information as to where the NPC in question might be, what monsters to kill, etc.  But all in all this guide set-up comes the closest to doing everything for you that I can imagine possible, at least without violating more than a few rules.

Zygor

Here you can see my newly created blood elf Warlock, yes I have a suspicious number of blood elves - after playing a tauren for more than a few years I’ve come to appreciate a smaller character-model for PvP.  Another similarity is the Japanese name, this is because I am in-fact studying japanese in the fanatastic WoW-killer MMORPG known as Real-life, at least when not slavering away at grinding or writing something up for the site, but I digress.

Zygor

Level’s came fast and easy, the guides intuitively easy to access and follow interface turned what was once a concious yet zombie-like interaction between my hands and the keyboard into the mere flashing by of levels, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. all blended into one continuous game of “catch the arrow” followed by madly clicking anything with a golden exclamation then repeating step one

Zygor

Before I even realized it, I was level 10, a brand spanking new talent point at my disposal, and somehow located within the center of the dead scar.  Whether the lack of memory about my doings for the previous hour or so was the effect of mindlessly following an arrow for extended durations of time, or the result of my mind instinctively defending itself against the infernal machinations of the leveling grind, I may never know. Either way, the guide had definitely proved that it was working thus so far, and quite well at that.

This is of course just the start, but as far as first impressions go, the guides pretty much proved itself as the be-all-end-all of leveling guides, at least until someone invents a robot capable of replacing me at the keyboard, but I have a feeling that’s a bit far off from completion.

Check back every couple days, I’ll update my experiences with the guide on the way to 70 soon - Also, now that you’ve read the review and if you’re interested in checking this guide out, click here for Zygor’s 1-70 Alliance & Horde Leveling Guides.
